| Description: |
Located
off the coast of Massachusetts between Cohasset and Scituate,
Minot Light is in one of the most dangerous locations for those
at sea. Boats can approach it only when the water is perfectly
calm. The light is 114 feet above the water, and waves have
been known to break over the top.
Its signal is a flash sequence that repeats every 15 ½
seconds: flash one, then a five-second pause, then flash four,
then a five-second pause, then flash three. It is often said
that the 1-4-3 signal was used as a code for "I love you"
from someone in the lighthouse to her sailor out to sea. |
